Statutes & internal rules

About these rules

The Belgian Nuclear Society (BNS) is a non-profit association (ASBL/VZW). Its functioning is governed by the Statutes (Statuts coordonnés, General Assembly of 24 January 2008) and the Internal Rules (Règlement d'ordre intérieur, 25 October 2007). The original French texts are available under Members' resources. This page is an English summary for convenience; in case of doubt the Statutes prevail.

Membership

  • Effective members are natural persons holding a relevant degree, students enrolled at a Belgian higher-education institution, or persons admitted by the Board under Article 7 (ST 6–7).
  • Adherent (corporate) members are companies active in the nuclear sector, admitted by the Board. They have no vote and no representation (ROI 2).
  • An application must be supported by two sponsoring members whose fee for the current year is paid (ST 6).
  • Admission is decided by the Board; you become an effective member when your first annual fee is paid (ROI 2).

Fees

  • The fee year is the calendar year, without pro-rata. The Board sets the fees each year; the standard fee may not exceed €125 (ST 8).
  • Categories: Standard, Young Generation (under 36), Retired, Student, Corporate SME (< 20 employees) and Corporate. Members aged 26 or younger pay no fee (Board policy).
  • Fees are never refunded, whatever the reason for leaving (ST 10).

Voting at the General Assembly

  • Only effective members who have paid the fee of the current year may vote or hold a proxy (ROI 5). Each member may hold at most one proxy.
  • The ordinary General Assembly meets once a year, before 30 June, to approve the accounts and the budget (ST 18, 21).

Leaving the Society

  • You may resign at any time in writing; an authenticated request from myBNS counts as a written resignation (ST 9).
  • A member who does not pay after the reminders and the grace period is deemed to have resigned (ST 9).
  • Exclusion can only be decided by the General Assembly with a two-thirds majority (ST 9, 19 §4).
